Replacing Engine Mounts

During the annual season prep work for 2011, I noticed a problem with the engine alignment, which led me to take a look at the engine mounts.  They were in tough shape and needed to be replaced in order to be able to correct the engine alignment.  Below (left) is a picture of one of the rusted engine mounts.

These mounts were too far gone to be adjustable.  So, I ordered new mounts online.  Here are the new engine mounts waiting to be installed.

Removing the old mounts took a bit of work as most of the bolts for the engine mount brackets were hidden from easy view and access.

I had to cut the top bolt of the mount in order to disassemble the mount from the bracket.  Here is a picture (right) of the disassembled mount/bracket along side the new mount.  Notice the remaining fragments of the bolt.

I also had to refurbish the brackets, since they were quite rusted.  Below is a picture of the refurbished bracket along with the new mount, ready for installation.  I had to support the engine in several places while I removed and replaced each mount.  I did one at a time to make matters simpler

Installing the new mounts went a bit faster than removing the old ones.  Overall, it took about 8 hours to remove, refurbish and re-install the engine mounts and brackets.

Below are some pictures of the new mounts installed.  At that point, I was now ready to align the engine.

I greased the working parts fairly well to prevent them from rusting.

It was quite a job replacing these engine mounts, particularly because I did not remove the engine to do it.  Hopefully, I will be able to align the engine easily with these new mounts and they will stay in good shape for quite some time.
