Swim Platform Delamination

Shortly after getting the boat home and starting to go through it, I noticed a ‘squishy’ sound as I walked over the swim platform.  I investigated the source of the noise further and determined that the platform was delaminating from its core material.  So, using a light duty hammer, I tapped all around the platform looking for the tell-tale ‘bounce’ of the hammer.  This allowed me to draw an outline of the delamination area.

It turned out that the effected areas were on both sides of the swim ladder, largely in the center of each side.  Pictured below are the pencil outlines of these areas.  The platform was still quite useable, but the delamination would need to get repaired at some point, as it will only worsen and lead to more severe issues.

I had a similar problem with my sailboat years ago, and was able to repair it with some penetrating epoxy.  I was thinking of doing something similar with the swim platform, but first some test holes will need to be drilled to assess the condition of the core material underneath.
